5 Habits of Highly Successful Teens πŸš€

Lifestyle Oct 30, 2020

Wake up at noon, laze around in bed all day, ignore the mountain of homework you have, rant to a friend over a call, and stress yourself out at night because you have to submit your work at the last minute.

These are the things that will not help you, and will hinder you from achieving your goals.

If you need some help in trying to break an unproductive spell, here are a 5 good habits that we've gathered from our own experiences and teenagers with whom we keep in close touch.

Exercise

It's crucial to exercise at any stage in life, but especially when you're a teen. Establishing a workout routine early on in life helps us set the stage for when we're older and need to rely on our body more than ever. Following an exercise regimen on a regular basis is part of a healthy lifestyle.

That being said, too much of exercise isn't great for our bodies either. Some teens may feel pressurised into over-exercising to fit into a certain ideal, but that's never a good idea. A healthy you is a happy you, regardless of what the world tells you on how the number on the scale must look like.

Talk a lot, listen more

You might have heard this a million times, but there's a reason as to why people believe in it so much. A lot of people aspire to listen more than they talk, simply for making the person who's doing the talking feel understood.

Listening actively is a sign to others that we care and that they are in a safe space. This also means that we are engaged in what the other person is saying, and not thinking of what to say when it's our turn to talk.

Don't talk less. Speak freely, and as much as you want to while keeping the other person's feelings in mind. But remember that listening more than we speak is beneficial for all parties involved in a conversation.

Active listening makes us realize that everyone has a story, and while yours is equally important, you should give others a chance to tell theirs.

Plan out your day

Planning is great! No, really. It helps us work towards our goals and we can spend our time on things that really matter to us. Planning means thinking through all the activities supposed to be done for the day, as well as how we will achieve them. It's a good way of organizing our goals as well as our thoughts.

We all know the dreadful feeling when 10 minutes of scrolling through instagram turns into 4 hours. Planning helps us remind ourselves of our goals, especially when we keep them in our line of sight. Β

If you think this sounds boring, Β try bullet journalling. It helps us focus not only through writing, but also art.

There are different ways of planning out your day, Β so make sure you find one that suits you.

Engage in hobbies

Having a hobby that we enjoy brings us joy and enriches our lives. It gives us something fun to do during our leisure time and lets us relax and unwind. It could be anything, from yoga to collecting game cards. It doesn't have to be serious if it's just something you do for fun.

In our daily lives filled with stress and envy, it's important to remember that not everything has to be a side hustle.

So, do the things you love without guilt or hesitation. Keep in mind that our lives last for a brief moment, so it's alright if you spend 1/15th of it reading that cheesy wattpad novel.

Take self-care days

Taking a self-care day is important. You're not lazy if you just want to stop for a while. Sometimes, we all just need a break from our hectic lives, and that's not a bad thing.

Allocating time to rest is essential to our wellbeing. Just like we sleep every night, or like how a bodybuilder takes a day or two off from their workouts – our bodies just work that way.

These habits are not absolutes and shouldn't be followed if they drain you to a point of burnout. It's important to take care of yourself and remember that if you follow these, it should be for yourself and not some rat-race.
